Why the Dark Moon Is Basically Therapy, But Cheaper and With Better Aesthetics
The Dark Moon is that awkward point in the lunar cycle where the moon vanishes, everything goes quiet, and you’re left alone with your thoughts. Which is rude, honestly, but also useful.
This is the phase that whispers,
“Hey… remember all that stuff you’ve been ignoring? Yeah. That.”
During the Dark Moon, the energy drops, the noise fades, and suddenly your shadow self comes knocking like, We need to talk. This is not a punishment. This is an invitation. An uncomfortable one, but still an invitation.
Shadow work lives here.
Not the Instagram version with candles staged just right, but the real kind. The kind where you meet the parts of yourself that didn’t get processed properly because life was busy and nobody taught you how.
Welcome to the Dark of the Moon. It’s quiet here. Too quiet. Which is exactly the point.
So What Is the Dark Moon, Really?
The Dark Moon is the phase when the moon is completely invisible, usually lasting about three days. No glow. No drama. Just cosmic stillness.
This is when the moon’s energy is at its lowest, which makes it the perfect time to stop pretending everything’s fine and actually look at what’s simmering underneath.
This is where shadow work comes in. Carl Jung gave it a fancy psychology name, but witches have been doing this forever. Shadow work is just facing the parts of yourself you were told were inconvenient, embarrassing, too much, or not allowed.
Spoiler: those parts didn’t go away. They just got quieter and sharper.
Dark Witchery doesn’t ask you to “fix” yourself.
It asks you to know yourself, which is far more dangerous.
Preparing for Dark Moon Work (No, You Don’t Need to Be Perfect)
Before you start poking around your psyche, set yourself up so you don’t immediately bail.
Create a Space That Doesn’t Stress You Out
Pick a place where you won’t be interrupted by notifications, people, or the sudden urge to reorganize a drawer.
Candles are optional.
Mood lighting encouraged. Black is always appropriate.
Set an Intention, Not a Performance
Ask yourself:
What am I avoiding?
What keeps repeating?
What still stings?
Write it down. Not poetically. Honestly.
Gather Your Tools
Journal. Cards.
Something to sit on that won’t make your back hate you. This isn’t a test. It’s a conversation.
Dark Moon Rituals That Actually Do Something
1. The Letter to Your Shadow Self
This is not a love letter. This is a let’s clear the air letter.
How to do it:
Sit somewhere quiet.
Breathe until your shoulders drop.
Write directly to the part of you that gets blamed, hidden, or ignored.
Say what you’re angry about. Say what you’re afraid of. Say what you never say out loud.
Then read it aloud. Yes, aloud. It hits different when you can hear yourself admitting the truth.
No burning required. No dramatic exits. Just honesty.
2. The Water Release Ritual (Because Holding Everything Is Exhausting)
Water is excellent at taking things off your hands.
How to do it:
Fill a bowl with water.
Add a pinch of salt.
Hold it and focus on what you’re done carrying.
Say it plainly: “I release what no longer serves me.”
Then pour the water into the earth. You don’t need to explain yourself. The ground gets it.
Meditation for People Who Don’t Want to “Clear Their Mind”
1. Guided Shadow Visualization
Close your eyes and imagine a dark place that feels safe, not scary. A forest. A hallway. A quiet room.
Your shadow self is there. Ask it one question: “What do you need from me?”
Then listen. Don’t argue. Don’t fix. Just listen.
2. Integration Meditation
Sit quietly. Breathe. When uncomfortable thoughts show up, don’t shove them away. Acknowledge them like a tired guest.
You’re not here to banish anything. You’re here to stop fighting yourself.
Keeping the Dark Moon Work Going
Shadow work isn’t a one-night event. It’s a relationship.
Tarot or Oracle Cards: Pull cards during the Dark Moon and journal without trying to make it pretty.
Dream Journaling: Your subconscious is loud during this phase. Write it down before it escapes.
Grounding: Touch the earth. Walk. Breathe. Do something that reminds your body you’re safe while your mind is wandering into dark corners.
Remember This (Seriously, Remember This)
Shadow work is not about becoming someone else.
It’s about stop abandoning parts of yourself.
The Dark Moon doesn’t ask you to be lighter, happier, or more positive. It asks you to be honest. And honesty is powerful in ways positivity never will be.
Darkness isn’t empty.
It’s full of things waiting to be acknowledged.
So don’t rush this.
Don’t sanitize it.
And don’t apologize for it.
The Dark Moon isn’t here to save you.
It’s here to remind you that you were never lost.

This is very interesting to me. I hope I can do this. I doubt myself a lot. I can’t memorize things, so I have to read as I go along. Is that bad?!? Thank you for sharing Darklady 🖤🔥🖤
